08/17/2010 - RURAL VERMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT BENEFITS FROM INVESTMENT IN BLOSSOM LEARNING ONLINE SMART BOARD COURSE

Windham Central Supervisory Union says the Blossom Learning course will play a pivotal role in the school district’s ongoing training programs.

TORONTO, CANADA, August 17, 2010 — Seeking an affordable and effective way to bring technology training to the teachers in its rural school district, the Windham Central Supervisory Union, based in Townshend, Vermont, has turned to the Blossom Learning Online SMART Board Course for the solution, according to Blossom Learning General Manager Paul Weatherhead. According to Weatherhead, the Vermont school district has purchased 25 copies of the online course as part of a projected multi-phase investment in the training solution.

According to John Doty, Principal of the Windham Elementary School and Coordinator of Professional Development for Improved Student Learning at the Windham Central Supervisory Union, “We initially purchased five copies of the Online SMART Board Course for our early adopters,” Doty explained. “Based on the initial success we had with the course we purchased an additional 20 copies before the end of the last school year. I expect that when teachers return to start the new school year that we will see a heavy demand for the Blossom course.”

Doty explained that, as a rural school district, he needed a training solution that was easy to afford, deploy, and manage. “I needed a comprehensive SMART Board training solution that my people could use on their own schedule and that’s what I got with the Blossom Learning solution. The Blossom Learning solution is easy to assign to teachers. I can manage their progress every day by email. What could be easier than that?”

The Windham Central Supervisory Union serves ten towns in a geographically diverse area of southern Vermont, which includes the West River Valley and mountain ski areas. It is the second largest geographical union in the state covering 365 square miles and more than 150 miles of connecting roadways. The Union’s approximately 1000 students are served by the communities of Brookline, Dover, Jamaica, Marlboro, Newfane, Stratton, Townshend, Wardsboro, Windham, and Winhall.

Introduced in January of this year, the Blossom Learning Online SMART Board Course is designed to be a complete and affordable training solution that comes with built-in LMS administrative facilities that allow school districts to facilitate purchases, allocate courses to teachers, and track individual teacher progress toward completion. The eight-chapter course allows teachers to complete training on their schedule, and completion shouldn’t take any more than two to three weeks. However, teachers will be able to get up and running with the SMART Board within minutes of starting the online course! The course allows teachers to return to the material over and over again until they become proficient, and the course includes PDF-formatted homework practice sessions, end-of-chapter reviews and quizzes that must be completed before proceeding to the next section. By the time they are finished, teachers will have progressed sequentially from the Fundamentals level through the Intermediate and Advanced levels, and receive a personalized Certificate of Completion.
